06/26/19 I Give to You

READING: 2 Chronicles 1-5, Acts 2:37-3:10

Someone had to carry the lame man to the temple each day. He had been crippled from his birth, so he never knew what it was like to walk upright. Each day was apparently filled by begging in the temple area. Every day, you could hear him pleading for more from the people going into the place of worship.

He did the same when Peter and John came to the temple at the hour of prayer. Peter’s response, though, was clear: “I do not possess silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you: In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene—walk!” (Acts 3:6). The apostle Peter didn’t have money to give the man, but he did have Jesus. To the Healer he directed the lame man, and “all the people saw him [the previously lame man] walking and praising God” (Acts 3:9). Everyone was rightly amazed at the power in the name of Jesus!

What I fear today is that we tend to offer our money for good causes (including God’s church), but we too seldom offer Jesus to those who need Him. It’s easier, frankly, to write a check or give online than it is to enter into the life of a non-believer, model Christianity, and share the good news of Jesus.

It’s easier, but it’s not the same. Until we’ve offered Jesus, we’ve not offered enough.

PRAYER: “Father, guide me to offer Jesus to someone today.”
