11/15/19 His People

READING: Jeremiah 50:17-51:64, Hebrews 8:1-9:10

It’s hard to imagine many sweeter words than the writer of Hebrews recorded as he spoke of the new covenant, one that is superior to the old covenant: “I will be their God, and they will be my people. . . . For I will forgive their wrongdoing, and I will never again remember their sins” (Heb 8:10, 12). These verses, quoted from Jeremiah 31, remind us that the One with whom we walk is a personal God. In fact, these verses echo with the goodness of God:

He’s welcoming.

Possessing.

Loving.

Freeing.

He invites us into a relationship with Him.

He calls us His own.

He forgives us.

He does not remember our sins.

We are blessed indeed, but still we too often take our Christianity for granted. We fail to recognize the mystery and majesty behind the God of the Bible who has chosen to be our God. He has redeemed us through the blood of Jesus, and surely we must be humbled and grateful today. Throughout this day, thank God that we are His people.

PRAYER: “Thank You, God, for being our God and allowing us to be Your people.”
